Acceptance is an essay away!
Do admissions officers really take the essay into consideration? How much of a difference does the essay make in the decision making process?
Although the transcript, test scores, and resume weigh extremely heavily in the admissions decisions, the essay is one of your rare opportunities to share something special about yourself as well as your ability to express yourself effectively. If a college asks you to write an essay, you can be certain that it will be read, evaluated and considered in the process. A good essay can tip the scales in your favor; a bad essay can have the opposite effect, no matter how good your numbers look.

Testimonials
When I discovered that the school I wanted to attend was also one of the top 15 in the nation, I knew that I was in for a challenging application process. And since I was also applying to a school of journalism, I knew that my writing was an even more essential part of my application. Working with Mrs. Kashman was a comprehensive process; she critiqued the approach, the tone, the language, and the overall interest level of my essay. She took the basic idea I had and helped me to turn it into a compelling essay. And thanks to working with her, I'm exactly where I want to be right now. ~J.T.M., Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University |
