Acceptance is an essay away!
Sometimes there's just TMI
The College Essay Whiz Says:
Sometimes there's just too much information!
When I was navigating the college process as a parent, there were only a few ways to go: Find a reliable book that gave somewhat up-to-date data about U.S. colleges, talk with the high school guidance counselor, or take a road trip to see the schools for yourselves.
These are still good ideas: Now there are hundreds of relevant books and websites, internet-savvy and knowledgeable counselors, and virtual tours that allow you to save for college by avoiding the skyrocketing cost of gas and the terrifying “fuel surcharges” for a plane flight. However, the numbers of resources are so vast – virtually endless – that they can be quite overwhelming. Just as at some point on the literal college tour, it was difficult to remember which school had the amazing library and which dorm rooms were no more than the size of a closet, there are now more websites to explore, more blogs to peruse, and more tweets to keep track of than are humanly possible to absorb.
And, of course, you need to wade through and evaluate the advertising and the glitz, the Facebook postings, Twitter tweets, and blogs of thousands of resources!
In addition, just as you certainly have discovered when researching other subjects on the internet, not every source is reliable, and not every website leads you to the answers you are seeking.
Even if you are completely comfortable with multi-tasking your way through media, it may be your first venture into the college search process. That’s why the College Essay Whiz has created a full directory of a wide variety of books, websites and search engines to explore!
And as soon as you are ready, contact the College Essay Whiz to help you navigate through the process.
