[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Law School AdviceYou’ve created your LSAC account and registered for the LSAT.  You’ve got your wish list of law schools and requested letters of recommendation. Now you are ready to tackle the personal statement!

The personal statements may vary, but they generally expect you to demonstrate in a thoughtful and well-written essay why you are a candidate worth accepting.  Each gives you an excellent opportunity to distinguish yourself as a person, student, and potential candidate.

See the samples below from UCLA, Stanford, and Cornell.

  • UCLA:  Discuss any matters relevant to your ability to succeed in law school and the practice of law and any attributes, experiences or interests that would enable you to make a distinctive contribution to UCLA Law or the legal profession.
  • Stanford University: Enclose a statement of about two pages describing important or unusual aspects of yourself not otherwise apparent in your application. While admission to Stanford Law School is based primarily upon superior academic achievement and potential to contribute to the legal profession, the Admissions Committee also regards the diversity of an entering class as important to the school’s educational mission. If you would like the committee to consider how factors such as your background, life and work experiences, advanced studies, extracurricular or community activities, culture, socio-economic status, sex, race, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation would contribute to the diversity of the entering class and hence to your classmates’ law school experience, you may describe these factors and their relevance in a separate diversity statement.
  • Cornell University: Include with your application a personal statement that will give the Admissions Committee any information you believe relevant to the admissions decision that is not elicited elsewhere in the application.  The statement is your opportunity to tell us about yourself; it may address your intellectual interests, significant accomplishments, obstacles overcome, personal or professional goals, educational achievements, or any way in which your perspective, viewpoint, or experiences will add to the richness of the educational environment of the School of Law.

Are you ready for the challenge? We can help you to complete a personal statement that fulfills the criteria of this critical part of the application process.
