News About the 2019 Common App

Almost all college applicants will be filling out online applications using the Common App.  This year, Common App will be used by 772 colleges and universities.  New additions to Common App include schools that until this year required their own independent application.  Now the University of Pittsburgh, CUNY Queens, Penn State, Michigan State, and Florida State University are among the schools that have become Common App members.

The Common App went offline starting on Friday, July 27 as it finalizes the 2018-2019 Common Application. Applicants will be able to access Common App by August 1. All of the colleges and universities will have loaded their supplementary information and essay prompts as well. If you have filled out any information on the previous version, you will be able to roll over your account to the new one simply as long as you have your user name and password!  Just follow the simple instructions, and you will be ready to go.

It is important to note that the Common App itself offers a wide range of services to help applicants and their families navigate the process including YouTube tutorials, tools and resources, and grade level checklists.  The CAPP Ready Toolkit is also full of valuable information, including instructions for parents, counselors and recommenders, system resources, financial aid and scholarship information, notifications about newly-restructured transfer applications, and easy, direct ways to ask questions which often are answered personally in minutes!

Although the changes in the Common App this year have been minimal in number, they are important in concepts ranging from whether you need to list courses and grades, how to answer the demographic question, and what the privacy policy entails.

Check to see if the schools of your choice are interested in your resume which can be uploaded, a ZeeMee video/photo profile, or a portfolio!
