On the Waiting Game

This New York Times video is a wonderful reality check about “What Not to Do” if you have been put on a waiting list for the university of your dreams.

My advice is to do what the universities request: If you want to stay on the waiting list, send an email or letter that indicates your continued interest. Write a few sentences or a paragraph that has some new information about you. This is the time of year when seniors get recommendations, scholarships, and other honors. If you’ve gotten an internship or a really exciting summer opportunity lined up that relates to your academic field, let them know. If they find your information to be intriguing, they may contact you. But otherwise, try to set your sights and muster your enthusiasm for the school you have chosen to attend!
