Plan Ahead for Standardized Tests!

For High School Juniors who are thinking of applying to schools Early Decision or Early Action, consider signing up for the ACT or SAT before the fall semester starts.  Here are the dates:

ACT TEST DATES:
Saturday, June 9, 2018: Registration deadline May 4 (Late registration deadline May 18)
Saturday, July 14, 2018: Registration deadline June 15 (Late registration deadline June 22)

SAT and SUBJECT TEST DATES:
Saturday, May 5, 2018: Registration deadline April 6 (Late registration deadline April 25)
Saturday, June 2, 2018: Registration deadline May 3 (Late registration deadline May 23)

 Note: Although some U.S. colleges and universities no longer consider standardized tests in their evaluations of prospective applicants, others have exceptions (out-of-state, use for placement, etc.).  See a complete list at Fairtest.org for details.

Who Requires SAT SUBJECT TESTS?
Although many U.S. schools no longer require SAT Subject Tests, prospective applicants should be aware that other colleges and universities do indeed expect to see these results.  Students need to review the list of schools below – If you are even considering any of them, you must plan ahead!  Visit each school’s website for details.

Schools that require Subject Tests from all applicants:
California Institute of Technology
Harvard/Radcliffe (exceptions: financial hardship or student feels that he/she can be fairly evaluated without these tests)
Harvey Mudd College
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Webb Institute (Naval Architecture)

Schools that require specific Subject Tests:
Cooper Union (engineering majors)
Cornell University (Arts and Sciences and Engineering)
Northwestern University (3 for Integrated Science and Engineering – AP or IB courses may fulfill requirement)

Schools that require Subject Tests from all applicants who submit SATs rather than ACTs:
McGill University
Tufts University (except BRFA applicants to SMFA programs)

Schools that no longer require Subject Tests:
Brown University
Carnegie Mellon University
Rice University
Wellesley College
